Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Wisdom tooth extraction is often necessary to prevent crowding in the mouth. Wisdom teeth can grow in at an angle, crowding other teeth or becoming impacted when there is not enough room for growth. A general dentist can perform this operation, but often patients are referred to an oral surgeon who specializes in extractions. Since wisdom tooth extraction is most comfortably performed while under anesthesia and may require specialized techniques, oral surgeons perform the vast majority of wisdom tooth extractions in the United States.
